Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock is open to Johnny Marr's return: "The option's available to him!"

Johnny Marr is welcome to rejoin Modest Mouse whenever he wants.

The Smiths guitarist played with the "Float On" rockers from 2006 to 2008, and is featured on their 2007 album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. As for whether Marr will ever return, frontman Isaac Brock tells NME, "The option's available to him!"

"I love being in a band with Johnny," Brock shares, adding that the the man who famously played on songs including "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" is "one of the funniest dudes I know."

"One thing I don't think people expect because of the history -- you know, The Smiths were a moody band and s*** aesthetically, so people expect poetry not comedy -- but Johnny's f*****' hilarious," Brock says.

Marr, by the way, isn't the only famous rocker to have collaborated with Modest Mouse. As drummer Jeremiah Green reveals, the band jammed with Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic during the sessions for their last record, 2015's Strangers to Ourselves. They ended up recording a song together, but decided to leave it off the album.

"We had this kind of heavy metal song with Krist," says Green. "I guess we were a little afraid of it because it doesn’t sound like us."

"It sounds like Nirvana, sort of, and we tried to make it not sound like Nirvana," he adds. "But in the end it kind of sounds like it could be Nirvana. I mean, musically it does -- Isaac doesn't sound like Kurt Cobain or anything like that. It could come out sometime."

Meanwhile, Modest Mouse's newest album, The Golden Casket, drops this Friday.
