Governor DeSantis issues State of Emergency for all east coast counties ahead of Hurricane Isaias

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Governor Ron DeSantis is declaring a state of emergency from Miami-Dade to Nassau County as Hurricane Isaias is expected to impact South Florida as early as Friday night.

A Hurricane Watch has been issued for portions of the Florida east coast from north of Deerfield Beach northward to the Volusia-Brevard County Line. A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for portions of the Florida east coast from north of Ocean Reef northward to Sebastian Inlet and for Lake Okeechobee.

DeSantis is also telling people to stay vigilant and to prepare. They are not expecting to open shelters at this time, but the next 12 hours are key to watch.

“We still don’t think there is a need to open shelters for this storm, but they are ready,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis says he is going to be asking President Donald Trump later today for an extension of the state’s agreement to get National Guard help.
