JSO: Driver claims he was being shot at, leads to head-on crash on 103rd Street near I-295

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 5/3/2021 11:35 P.M.:

JSO said just after 10 p.m. an officer on duty witnessed a car speeding through the red light at Ricker Road and 103rd Street.

After running the light, the car crashed head on into another car that was exiting I-295 on 103rd Street.

The driver of the car that was hit was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, according to JSO.

JSO said an adult female in the passenger seat of the speeding car told officers she had been shot on her side.

She was transported to a nearby hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The driver of the speeding car told police that he was being shot at by another vehicle on Ricker Road and 103rd Street and that is why he was speeding to get away from the shooting.

JSO said they located a shooting scene at Melvin Road and Ricker Road and are currently trying to determine if the two incidents are related.

Crime scene detectives are responding to these scenes to conduct their investigation.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting on Jacksonville’s westside.

JSO said the shooting happened near 103rd St. and I-295.

Action News Jax has a crew headed to the scene, and the sheriff’s office is scheduled to give an update at 11 p.m.
