Department of Health in Clay County host Back-to-School Immunization Drive until end of the week

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — On Tuesday, most students in our area will board their buses and head inside the classroom for the first day of school.

April Campbell is getting her son Elisha ready for kindergarten.

But first, she must make sure he’s up to date on all his immunizations.

“He had to get measles, mumps, rubella,” Campbell said.

The health department and Clay County Schools are teaming up at the Clay County fairgrounds to make sure your child gets all the necessary shots before they head to class Tuesday.

Tdap immunizations are required for all students entering the 7th grade.

The vaccine helps provide protection against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis, or whooping cough.

Elisha ended up getting three shots on Monday.

“He cried for a second and not loud, just a little tear and then that was it,” Elisha said.

The mother of five said the whole process is easy. All you need is your child’s current immunization record and a photo ID.

Back-to-school immunizations are taking place inside the J.P. Hall building.

COVID-19 vaccines are also available for children ages 12 and up, but for now, Campbell, says she’s going to wait.

“I’m still on the fence with that. I don’t know. I do want to, but I also want to do more research,” she said.

The Clay County immunization event is free, and it is happening until Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Clay County Fairgrounds.
